Rancho TOPO
Crafted Earth needed to build up a site model for a project in Novato, CA. Given the sloped terrain and views to the south, they knew early on that framing those views would be critical to their design. This meant modeling not only the local topography, but also that of Mt. Tamalpais, 13 miles away. Using Heron, the add-in it developed for Grasshopper, BWA to make quick work of it. Raster GIS topography files were converted to meshes and mapped with aerial imagery in Rhino. The vertices of the meshes were then imported to Revit in order to construct a native Revit topography. Armed with a topography model which includes much of Marin County, Crafted Earth could make sure they captured the views they desired.
A tutorial on this workflow is available Topo Model blog post.
