Catchment

How far away is the emergency exit?  How many people will this kitchen serve?  How long will it take to get to the bathroom?  These kinds of questions can help organize the planning of a space and can be answered with a catchment analysis.  WRNS wanted to do a check on a few of these metrics while designing the remodel for their Microsoft Silicon Valley Campus.  Below is a study of the catchments for the restrooms.  Number of desks (people) served, travel distance and travel time are all calculated. 

Going beyond a static report of metrics, the catchment analysis can serve as the basis for optimization.  A similar study was done at the urban scale for Sutter Health when looking to optimize locations for their future clinics.  Click here for details.
